| Umpiring News
|
Congratulations to Beth Cole, Amersham, on passing her C test. At the League presentations on Thursday April 29th awards were given to the outstanding umpire in each division. Gradings given by teams were used to decide who deserved the award in divisions 1-3. In divisions 4-6 the umpiring secretary liaised with the divisional umpiring secretary to choose the recipient. The following received awards: Div 1 Maria Webber, Barnettes Div 2 Debbie Stott, Heath Angels Div 3 Rhiannon Williams, Penarth Div 4 Veronica Meddick, Leckwith Ladies Div 5 Beth Cole, Amersham Div 6 Mary Wilcox, Heath Angels Further congratulations go to Debbie Stott on her selection to umpire at the forth coming European Youth Netball Tournament in Malta. A special award was made to Denise Roberts, Heath Angels: Denise has given support and encouragement to a large number of her players and club members to set them on the umpiring route.
She has been responsible for Heath Angels producing a number of promising umpires, Debbie Stott, Mary Wilcox and her son James, to name a few. Two of those have received awards tonight. Heath also have the highest number of approved league umpires than any other club (10).
With a few more ‘Denises’ all of you who are responsible for putting an umpire on court on behalf of your clubs, would find things a little easier!

| Playoffs
|
Dear all
Well we are reaching the end of the season and just a few things to be done to complete the winter programme. The play off positions are not finalised but I thought I would send you out the latest situation. I will confirm the programme to the relevant teams following completion of fixtures on Wed 21st April.
Just for clarification, the teams who are taking part in the play off matches must field the players who have regularly played in matches for that team in the season. Please take account of league rules which state:
4.14 Players will only be eligible to play in a play off match if they have played at least 6 matches for that team in the league campaign.
The playing up rule can be applied in case of injury but only if that player has complied with rule 4.14 in their registered team.
Umpires will be allocated for each match. Duty will be managed by the division secretaries.

| Under Umpiring Forum Update
|
Under Umpiring Forum: Could all umpires be aware that league rules prevent them from umpiring two consecutive matches, other than in exceptional circumstances. There must be one 'rest' game between matches. This cannot be a game in which they participate as a player. If this rule is ignored the club to which they are attached could have points deducted.

| Umpires List
|
The league has an approved umpires list. It's purpose is to try and improve the standard of umpiring by constant monitoring, mentoring and assessment and to prevent clubs from using umpires who fall below the expected standard.
We are not trying to reduce the number of umpires available to clubs. If a club has a suitably qualified, able umpire who isn't on the list, but they would like to umpire in the Cardiff and District league on their behalf, could they do the following: •inform either their divisional umpiring secretary or the league umpiring secretary of their wish. •arrange an assessment for the first game the umpire officiates in.
Failure to do this may result in a points penalty for the club/team.

| BBC's Eggheads looking for Team Auditionees
|
I am writing from 12 Yard television productions with regards to the BBC2 quiz show ‘Eggheads’ which is now filmed in Glasgow . We are currently looking for new teams to take on ‘The Eggheads’ and as part of our casting process we like to track down teams who we feel would make interesting viewing and that is why I am contacting you. I think having a team of Rugby players on the show would be fantastic and was hoping you’d be able to forward the details on to anyone that may be interested. Auditions in the area begin next week!
I’m not sure if you are familiar with the show so I’ve broken it down for you below. If you do fancy getting a team together please do fill in the attached application and get it back to me asap.
What’s it all about?
Eggheads is hosted by Dermot Murnaghan and Jeremy Vine and everyday, a new team of challengers take on our team of general knowledge geniuses – The Eggheads.
How does it work?
In every show there are 4 individual question rounds, in which a player is asked up to 3 multiple choice questions each on subjects such as Sport, Music, Food and Drink, Arts and Books, Politics, History, Geography & Science and Film & TV.
The winner of each round secures themselves as an extra brain to play for their team in the final General Knowledge Round! The more category rounds a team wins the more players to confer with in the final round.
In each show there’s a minimum of ONE THOUSAND pounds up for grabs but if the Eggheads win then this money rolls over to the next show.
Who can apply as a team?
We are looking for fun and enthusiastic teams of 6 that would like to give it a go.
Anyone and everyone can apply for the show - You don’t even need to be an existing quiz team, why not create a team of friends, family or workmates? The only rule is that you know one another.
What happens next?
We will be speaking to teams over the next few weeks, and we are already auditioning. Selected teams will be invited to an audition where we will play the game and explain the casting process etc…

| Your Input Wanted
|
As regular visitors will know, this website was set up at the beginning of the season to help promote netball in the Cardiff area. I am glad to say that it has proved hugely popular with between 200 and 300 (and often more) visitors a month. So firstly I would like to thank everyone for providing the content - results, fixtures and tables - and therefore making the core of the site viable. We've also had a huge response from new players looking for teams and I hope we have been able to help most of these queries.
However, I want to get YOUR input on what you want to see on the site next season. I am personally keen to get more match reports, player profiles and lots more pictures, but I can't do this without YOU. So if you want to contribute anything, or suggest another feature of the site, please use the contact us page to let us know.
Please remember that the site is run by a volunteer (me) so don't suggest anything overtly technical as it may not be possible.
I hope to hear from you soon.

| Latest Standings
|
Dinas A are flying high at the top of Division 1 with a 100% record so far this year. Their closest rivals for the title are Cowbridge A, with 9 victories from 11, shortly followed by Llandaff with 8 victories from 11. Two teams have a game in hand but neither Central A or J&J A are in the running for a top spot this year.
In Division 4 Pentwyn Jets A are leading the table ahead of Heath B and Cowbridge B. Cowbridge are 4 points behind Heath B but with a game in hand they are certainly keeping the pressure on their rivals.
In Division 5 Creigiau B are in a commanding position with 12 victories from 13, a cool 7 points ahead of closest team Leckwith C. Amersham C are a point behing Leckwith but have played one more game.
Things certainly seem to be hotting up in this years Cardiff and District League.

Well done to Leckwith C and Cardiff Bay who are currently leading Divisions 5 and 6 respectively.

In Division 6, Cardiff Bay lead CTK by 2 points but CTK, and Amersham in current third place, both have a game in hand. It will be a struggle for the rest of the group to catch up - but by no means impossible!

| Celtic Dragons Lose
|
Dec 3 2008 by Anthony Woolford, South Wales Echo
CELTIC Dragons failed to weather a lightning strike on Monday night from Northern Thunder losing their Co-operative Netball Superleague clash at the Welsh Institute of Sport 41-30.
The game was vital for both teams, as Thunder were able to haul themselves off the bottom of the table to be replaced by the Dragons and Glasgow Wildcats.
A low-scoring first quarter set the tone for the match as Northern Thunder took an 8-5 lead into the break.
Charlotte Beenham entered the fray in the second quarter for Thunder and her appearance gave the Bury-based outfit new impetus.
Celtic Dragons dominated possession, but not working hard enough on court lost them the ball on too many occasions.
It meant opportunities to equalise and break away from Thunder came and went with the visitors stretching their lead to 21-16 at half-time.
The third and fourth quarters continued with sluggish play from both sides.
For Celtic Dragons, Stephanie Essex was sound in mid-court, holding the fort for her team when they patiently found their shooters.
Dragons skipper Sara Hale was a stand-out defender for her side sending the ball up continuously to her attack.
A disappointed Celtic Dragons coach Sue Gaudion said: “Both teams made similar errors, the shooting needs to improve and we need to learn critical timing and get into a good position to take a shot at goal.
“It was two teams with skills to work on.”
Hale added: “'I'm disappointed for the loss. We have a lot of work to do coming through the mid-court, attack around our shooting circle.
“If you want to play at this level an improvement in shooting statistics needs to be made.
“Defensively we did well and we want to carry that into next week. We need to carry on the hard work ethic at training to the full 60 minutes on court.”
