Positions | GK | The role of the Goal Keeper is to defend the goal post. They are responsible for neutralising the threat of the Goal Shooter. The Goal Keeper is allowed in the goal circle and the defensive third only. Skills Needed: Strength, blocking, marking, interception and rebound collection. | | GD | The role of the Goal Defence is to get the ball out of the goal third and into the attacking area. They are responsible for neutralising hte threat of the Goal Attack. The Goal Defence is allowed in the goal circle, the defensive third and the centre third. Skills Needed: Interception, positioning, marking, blocking, dodging and rebound collection. | | WD | The role of the Wing Defence is to get the ball to the attacking third. They are a key link between the defenders and attackers, and their main job is to prevent the ball from reaching the opposition's goal circle. They are responsible for getting the better of the opposing Wing Attack. The Wing Defence is allowed in the defensive third and the centre third, but not the goal circle. Skills Needed: Speed, marking, interception, positioning, dodging and agility. |
| C | The role of the Centre is to set the pace of the play, and shift the ball from the defensive area to the attacking area. Centres are the engine of the team. They are allowed in each third but not in either goal circles. They are responsible for marking the opposing centre but also covering other positions when required. They start each game, and passage of play after a score, with the centre pass. Skills Needed: Speed, agility, dodging, stamina.

| WA | The role of the Wing Attack it to get the ball to the Goal Attack and Goal Shooter and thus create goal scoring opportunities. They are allowed in the attacking third and the centre third, but not the goal circle. They must try and get away from the Wing Defence and create scoring chances. Skills Needed: Speed, agility, vision, dodging, accurate passing. | | GA | The role of the Goal Attack is to score goals. They work closely with the Goal Shooter to create scoring opportunities. They are allowed in the centre third, the attacking third and the goal circle but not the defensive third. They must get away from the opposition Goal Defence to get in to scoring positions. Skills Needed: Shooting, dodging, positioning, rebound collection, accurate passing. | | GS | The sole role of the Goal Shooter is to score goals. They are allowed in the attacking third and goal circle and no where else. They must get in a goal scoring position to receive the ball from the Goal Attack, Wing Attack or Centre. They must free themselves from the attention of the Goal Keeper and get the ball in the net. Skills Needed: Shooting, dodging, rebound collection,positioning. |
